Free Press Wings beat writer Helen St. James is really advancing some crazy ideas these days. Not long after suggesting the Stars' goalie situation could be good for the Red Wings' efforts to trade goalie overpriced flop Jimmy Howard, St. James is now suggesting the Wings could package Howard in a deal for former Norris contender Mark Giordano or rising young star Dougie Hamilton.
This is where trading Jimmy Howard (most likely in a package deal) could pay off, as a candidate such as Calgary could yield Mark Giordano or Dougie Hamilton.
St. James needs to explain why Calgary would give up Giordano or Hamilton to get the overpriced Howard when they can sign Cam Ward in free agency.
If there's a deal to be made with Calgary, Detroit would be very fortunate to get Dennise Wideman in return.
